Less than an hour’s drive south from Dublin, Brittas is one of the best-known beaches in Ireland. It stretches along the east coast of Wicklow, 5km of sand and dunes. While the main beach is very popular with families and has several camping and caravan sites, further south is the little-known naturist beach, Sallymount.
Swimming nude feels great: no suit to chafe the skin, the whole body feels the water and, when getting out, no struggle out of a soaking swimsuit while trying to preserve modesty under a flapping towel. The naturist simply strides out of the water and lets the air and sun do the drying: much more comfortable!
The tide is turning in favour of ‘au naturel’ swimming and there are now a growing number of people who strip off for charity; the ‘Dip in the Nip’ in aid of cancer charities encourages hundreds of people to jump into the sea, naked.
Event coming up;
A Message to All Skinny Dippers from British Heart Foundation (NI)
We are joining with British Naturism members
and people who just want to Skinny Dip to raise funds as part of the Great British Skinny Dip 2021.
Check out all the information at www.greatbritishskinnydip.co.uk.
Sunday 5th September 2021 on Portstewart Strand
from 11am until 3pm (high tide is 10.30am).
The National Trust will cordon off the last 3 sections of the Strand
near the river mouth for our exclusive use and will not charge for you
to bring your car on to the beach if you tell them you are part of the
GBSD. Lifeguards will be on duty on the day.
It would be great to have as many people as possible taking part and
raising money for a very worthwhile cause.
So if you want to get involved by getting sponsored by friends and
family please go to the Just Giving Page for BHF and all the
details will be there.
If you do not want to get sponsored then come along on the day and make
a £10 donation on the day and join in the fun.
As there are no officially approved naturist beaches in Ireland swimming or sunbathing nude on a public beach is illegal. The website of the Irish Naturist Association recommends using discretion and common sense to avoid problems and says that no member of the association has ever been prosecuted for naturist activities.
